This past summer, the Waterbury Chorale sponsored a trip to Ireland and Scotland. Led by Joe Jacovino, 47 singers and their families had a wonderful 14 day musical adventure. Arriving in Dublin at 5:00AM, we met our tour director, Brian, who cleverly led us through the 2 countries with a smile and splendid stories. We explored castles, churches, museums, and hiked the lovely countryside throughout our time there.
On our second night, we sang in a Dublin church with a group called Habemus who was welcoming, generous and extremely talented. The next day we had a noon concert at St. Patrick’s, also in Dublin. A night in Galway meant a concert at St. Nicholas Church.
The next day we sang an 8:00 AM mass in Belfast. Here we saw many remnants of “The Troubles” as Brian called them. We saw the “Book of Kells”, and great sights like the Giant’s Causeway, Glenndaugh, the Titanic Museum, and the Isle of Iona. We also saw the incredible cross erected for mass with Pope John Paul II. We all had a wonderful time, and it was nice to have cool weather in the summer, even though it was a bit wet.
